Strong brand photography helps customers understand what a business offers before they make an enquiry. For a café, it may be the food, interiors and atmosphere. For a product brand, it may be the details, materials and packaging. For a service business, it may be the people, process and finished work.
Start with the purpose of each image
Before a shoot, list where the photographs will be used: website hero banners, service pages, Google Business Profile, Instagram posts, advertisements, menus or brochures. Each placement has different framing needs. Website banners often need landscape compositions with space for text, while social posts may need vertical crops.
Plan a balanced shot list
- Wide images that establish the location or overall brand environment.
- Medium shots showing people, products or services in context.
- Close-up details that communicate quality, texture and craft.
- Portraits and behind-the-scenes moments that make the business feel approachable.
Prepare the location and products
Clean the space, remove distracting items, prepare products and confirm access before the shoot. For food photography, coordinate with the kitchen so dishes are ready close to the planned capture time. For product shoots, prepare clean samples and packaging.
Use images consistently online
Choose a consistent visual direction for colour, lighting and composition. Export appropriately sized images, use descriptive file names and write accurate alt text. Avoid repeating the same image across every page when a specific service image would be more useful.
